Layout Description

The decision to build this layout was taken around June 2003 with the objective of being able to run prototypical image trains on it.

Geographically, the location is wherever the viewer wants it to be, this allows the use of any or all stock available to the group. However the track formation is based on the section of G&SWR main line between Glasgow and Ayr, at the exchange sidings at Roche Products factory at Dalry where there was previously a colliery called Swinlees. Consequently the current name of the layout is Swinlees although this could be altered in the future.

Track work consists, mainly of an up and down main line with a slow line either side. Off the inner circuit, are sidings,a loco stabling point, a goods warehouse along with a branch to a cement factory.
At one end, the main lines are carried across river on a bridge. The single track access to the the cement factory also cross the river on a bridge.

At the rear of the layout, the main tracks are capable of being used for continuous running if required.
On either side of these are eleven storage roads, each capable of holding up to two prototypical length trains.

The layout is 32 ft long by 12 ft wide consisting of eight boards 6 ft by 4 ft and four of 6 ft by 3 ft. The boards are located by means of dowels and secured to one another by means of a captive nut & bolt which leads to quick assembly but it still needs "three days" to stock the yard !!

Here is a selection of pictures of the layout taken at out show in September '06.

We have ( from left to right),
the fuel depot, the approaches to the yard across the bridge,
a view of the cement works.

a view of the bridge across the stream, another view of the fuel depot,
and the works at the other end of the layout..

the vandals have been here, we have 2 pictures of the "scrap" yard with a coach
that has been attacked as has the trackway maintenance shed.

Here are some more pictures taken recently of some of the stock that is available in the club.

See the layout & stock at The SECC from the 22nd to 24th February
