Garnock  (O

Layout Description
This layout depicts a station at the end of section of single track where
the track resumes a double track formation. It has a small engine shed
& yard where spare stock can be stored for display purposes.
The yard is fully operational and locomotives can be shunted about the
yard independently of the main line. The end loading bay & yard bay
tracks are normally under the control of the yard but can be switched
to the UP line for various stock movements.
In addition, the head shunt at the end of the UP line can be switched
to the yard controller to allow locomotives, railcars and DMU's to be
moved from the yard to the bay platforms ready for use. There is also
a bay platform on the Down line where railcars & DMU's can be stored.
This allows a railcar or DMU to be run from the single track storage yard
to the bay and then sent back at some time later.
Since the original pictures of "Garnock" were published, the
back scene has been completely repainted and some of the pictures shown
below show the original back scene. As soon as I get the new ones sorted
out they will be published but as promised, here are some picture of a
new station building modeled on the old Beith Town station.

The club has a strong '0' gauge membership and consequently
has more stock than either '0' gauge layouts can support.
Due to the lengths of the turntable on "Garnock", trains are
passenger trains are limited to 3 standard coaches plus a tank engine
and freights to 6-7 trucks, here are some more pictures of some our stock
on the layout.

Layout Operation
The layout needs a minimum 3 operators to run it, one
on either turntable fiddle yard and the 3rd for the control panel.
An optional 4th operator can be utilized for yard shunting movements independently
of the main tracks.
The right hand ( from the public side) turntable has a common road in
and out of it but the other (left hand ) has two tracks feeding it.
The tracks on the left hand turn table have to be lined up by the operator
with either the DOWN line to accept a train or the UP line to send a train
to the station. This turntable is interlocked with the DOWN line to prevent
trains from running onto the turntable when it is lined up for the UP
line. The single turntable has lights on it to indicate whether the main
layout operator is requiring a train out or is sending a train in to the
fiddle yard.

Track Plan & Exhibition Floor Space Requirements
The layout is 40 feet long by 3 feet wide but due to the two 6ft turntables
at either end requires a minimum depth of 8ft to allow the turntables
to be rotated clear of the public viewing area.
Operator side, needs a minimum of 4 feet from any wall
or other layout for access
